Is it mandatory to have a carbon footprint summary?
Any company that wishes to assess their carbon footprint assessment may do so, but GHG assessments are mandatory for:
Companies in French overseas departments with 250+ employees
Companies in mainland France with 500+ employees
French public legal entities with 250+ employees
All local authorities for areas of France with a population of 50,000+
What is the difference between GHG and carbon footprint assessments?
GHG assessment = regulatory obligation (RT 2010 & RT 2012), limited to significant greenhouse gas emissions (not all Scope 3).
Carbon Footprint® (bilan carbone) = ADEME method (2004), risk-based approach requiring quantification of all 3 scopes, with a transition plan to reduce emissions.
